North Cumbria was a big user of SOX lighting. Many towns and villages had their roads illuminated by this familar light source for many decades. Now, as we move into the 21st century SOX lighting is becoming less and less.
I have been very lucky over the past 10 years or so to be able to collect some nice examples of this once popular light source. The lanterns that are iconic to me are the REVO C13721, Philips MA90 MK2 with External Gear, Philips MA50 MK1 with external Gear, the Thorn Beta 5 and the Thorn Gamma 6. Ever since I can remember these Lanterns always seemed to have been around.
The following is a list of lanterns that I have managed to collect over the years. The main sources were Dave Carr from Carlisle City Council and Paul Turnbull from Cumbria County Council. Without their help I wouldn't have the collection I have today, many thanks fellas :)
